Summer Programmes at Partner Institutions
CUHK students looking for short-term overseas experiential learning opportunities can apply to summer programmes offered by CUHK’s partner institutions directly. Most of these programmes offer cultural and language courses or research projects, as well as field trips and social programmes. They’re a chance to immerse yourself in another culture while meeting students from around the globe. Fees should be paid directly to the host institution. If you have any questions about a programme, please contact the institution offering it. For further assistance, please contact OAL at iasp@cuhk.edu.hk.

Summer in Japan (SIJ) (formerly named Asian in Today’s World (ATW)) is a newly launched five-week summer programme organised by Kyushu University for undergraduate and postgraduate students in any major starting from 2017. It is expected that approximately 20 students from Asia, Europe, North America and South America attend the programme, taking Asian Studies courses and intensive Japanese language courses. Chinese-Austrian EU Summer School
Since 2002, the Chinese Studies Center of the University of Salzburg and Eurasia-Pacific Uninet have organised the annual Chinese-Austrian EU Summer School for students from Chinese institutions. It’s designed for students who want to deepen their knowledge of Europe in general and Austria in particular. Lectures and workshops cover different aspects of European and Austrian history and culture, as well as the Austrian economy, its law and its politics. The school takes place mainly in Brussels, Vienna and Salzburg, with short trips to other nearby European cities. CUHK students can apply through the OAL, starting from April each year.
ACU Summer School
The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Summer School is a forum for talented university students to discuss multidisciplinary issues of global importance. Students in the final year of their undergraduate degree who expect to move to postgraduate study, or those already studying for a postgraduate degree are eligible to apply to attend. Qualifying students from ACU member institutions (including CUHK) are eligible to apply for subsidies.
The Summer School is hosted in a different country every year. ACU Summer School 2018 was hosted at CUHK from 1 to 9 July. Titled “Designing and Creating Sustainable Communities”, the Summer School attracted 45 bright-minded students from across the Commonwealth to the CUHK campus to discuss the issue with local and international experts in urban planning and developments.
ACU Summer School 2019 will be hosted by the University of Mauritius from 14 to 21 July. The theme of the Summer School will be “Public Health: from a small island state to the global community”. Application will open in November 2018. More details are available on the Summer School’s website.
