Research excellence shines in major funding schemes
CUHK receives the highest number of awards among local institutions in the RAISe+ Scheme.
CUHK has consistently demonstrated its research prowess, cementing its position as a leading university in Hong Kong and around the world. In the inaugural round of the Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+ Scheme) launched by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong Government, seven projects of the University were granted funding, the highest number among all local institutions. The CUHK-led projects cover a diverse range of innovative areas from advanced engineering, biomedical to biotechnology, demonstrating a high level of technology readiness that enables the translation of research outcomes into downstream product developments. Their success clearly showcases the University’s powerful industry links and translational research capabilities. Launched in 2023, the RAISe+ Scheme aims to unleash the potential of local universities in transforming and commercialising R&D outcomes, and facilitate collaboration among the Government, industry, university and research sectors.
The University’s research excellence has also been recognised in the Strategic Topics Grants 2024-25 offered by the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee. Out of the six funded projects, three are led by CUHK scholars. Prof. Guoliang Xing of the Department of Information Engineering, Prof. Vincent Cheung of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Prof. Hon Ki Tsang of the Department of Electronic Engineering have been awarded about US$7 million in total. CUHK scholars also take active part in projects led by other universities. The grants support collaborative research in specific areas that can help Hong Kong overcome imminent challenges and capture emerging opportunities.
