In an effort to strengthen international student exchanges, CUHK jointly organised the Hong Kong Partners’ Week with City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology which brought together international educators from 40 student exchange partner institutions worldwide. Held in December, the event allowed the guests to learn about the latest developments in Hong Kong, gain insight into the student experience in the city, and deepen understanding of the hosting universities.

Exploring campus life

The heart of the event lay in the morning sessions where they visited the four co-organising institutions to immerse in the rich tapestry of campus life, exploring not only the physical infrastructure but also the essence of student experiences. At CUHK, the group was welcomed by Provost Prof. Alan Chan, given a presentation by Ms. Shally Fan, Director of Academic Links, and heard the experience of two incoming students Sophie Schmid from Utrecht University and Adnan Alkurdi from American University of Sharjah. In addition to tours of the Wu Yee Sun College and the Art Museum, another highlight was workshops organised by the School of Chinese Medicine with hands on experience in making Chinese herbal sachet and experiencing auricular acupressure.

Discovering Hong Kong

The afternoons were equally stimulating. Distinguished speakers from prominent organisations in Hong Kong shared their expertise. Representatives from HSBC and The American Chamber of Commerce discussed Hong Kong’s pivotal role as a global financial hub. Additionally, leaders from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park shed light on groundbreaking research and industry partnerships to highlight Hong Kong’s leading role in advancing technology and innovation.

The week was not all business. Participants enjoyed cultural activities which showcased Hong Kong’s unique charm, including a welcome dinner at Victoria Peak against the glittering skyline with local delicacies and a walking tour of Central to explore the fusion of tradition and modernity along the bustling streets. A guided visit to the Palace Museum also allowed the participants to have a glimpse into Hong Kong and China’s rich history, art and cultural heritage.
