Shining bright in the diamond jubilee
The year 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of CUHK.
Our first sixty years saw rapid changes in the world – globalisation, technological advancement, political and economic developments, and digital transformation, not to mention a once-in-a-century global pandemic. Despite all the challenges, CUHK has been able to stand the test of time by staying true to its roots. It has grown from a young university to a full-fledged academic institution that stands alongside some of the most iconic names in global higher education as a world top 50 institution of higher learning. We have nurtured countless brilliant minds whose achievements have gone far beyond the frontiers of learning and research in many directions, making notable contributions to society. CUHK is, truly, a place where great minds shine.
CUHK President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky S. Tuan said, ‘In Chinese culture, turning 60 signifies the completion of a “jiazi” and the birth of a new cycle. This significant milestone in history represents more than a time to reminisce, but also an occasion to look ahead to the future. As we aspire to achieve “Excellence with Purpose and Responsibility”, we are eager to further strengthen our collaborations and partnerships with academic institutions and industries around the world in the next decade.’
A carnival of light for CUHK’s diamond jubilee
Graced with the attendance of more than 1,000 guests on campus, the University’s 60th Anniversary Commencement Ceremony was held on 12th February to kick off a series of CUHK’s diamond jubilee celebrations. A large-scale drone performance and a projection light show on the CUHK Library’s facade were among the stunning performances that brought an unforgettable night.
An exciting programme of nearly 100 activities will be rolled out until 2024 to celebrate our 60 years of excellence and to signal the next era of success. Join us for the celebration!
