Recognitions for research excellence
CUHK has received recognitions for excellence in innovation and research.
CUHK ranks among the top 100 worldwide universities granted US utility patents in 2020, according to the report released by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association in June. With 37 US utility patents issued last year which cover various technologies including diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, stem cell research, telecommunication, and mechanical engineering, the University ranks 79th and is one of the two institutions in Hong Kong on the list.
Research excellence at CUHK is also reaffirmed locally. In the results of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020 announced by the University Grants Committee in May, the research performances of many of its disciplines were judged as being of ‘world leading / internationally excellent’ standard, including engineering and technology, arts and humanities, social sciences, education, life and physical sciences, clinical medicine, business and economics, legal studies, among others. The achievements by CUHK’s scholars and researchers have been assessed based on the three elements of the overall quality profiles: research output, research impact and research environment.
