CUHK attaches significant importance to global engagement, which has long been a cornerstone of its mission to build strong international partnerships and programmes. Since assuming office as CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President in January, Prof. Dennis Lo has welcomed visitors to strengthen ties and explore new opportunities for academic collaboration.

In late February, Prof. Lo hosted his first international guests, a delegation from the University of Manchester (UoM) led by its President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Duncan Ivison. This visit was also Prof. Ivison’s inaugural overseas trip since beginning his presidency in August of last year. Celebrating a decade-long partnership, the two universities have established student exchange programmes, collaborative teaching initiatives, a joint research fund, and an innovation partnership through the Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence under the InnoHK initiative. During the visit, both universities also discussed potential collaborations in emerging areas such as medicine, energy, earth system science, AI, and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the visit from UoM, Prof. Lo also met with the Consul General of the Turkish Consulate General in Hong Kong, as well as executive leaders from various international higher educational networks, including the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Worldwide Universities Network in recent months. He reaffirmed CUHK’s commitment to enhancing the University’s international standing and fostering global academic partnerships.
