[Call for Participants] APRU Certificate in Global Climate Change Leadership (Internal Application Deadline: 6 Feb 2025)

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is now inviting applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students to participate in the 5th annual APRU Certificate in Global Climate Change Leadership (virtual) which will take place between April and May 2025.

 

The program is a role-playing exercise in which students from approximately 20 universities will form multi-country, multi-disciplinary teams to play the role of delegates to the UN Climate Change Negotiations. These live sessions will be supplemented with short lectures and materials developed and curated by the APRU experts. Students who have participated in all sessions will receive a certificate of completion.

Seven CUHK students will be selected and receive full sponsorship to join this rewarding learning activity.

 

APRU Certificate in Global Climate Change Leadership
(formerly known as Student Global Climate Change Simulation Program)

Objectives & Activities
  • The program aims to introduce students with the challenges of negotiations among countries on climate change and the importance of global collaboration.
  • Students will be assigned to international teams representing one of six countries/regions for two rounds of discussions and negotiations with support from international experts in climate science.
  • Students will hear perspectives from experts on topics such as coastal habitats, deforestation, clean energy, trading and offsets, and diplomacy and negotiation skills.

    Day 1: Opening ceremony/kickoff
  • 11 April at 9:00-11:30am
    Day 2: Preparations/group meeting
  • 25 April at 9:00-11:30am
    Day 3: 1st negotiations
  • 2 May at 9:00-11:30am
    Day 4: 2nd negotiations
Eligibility
  • Open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from all disciplines.
  • Students should be:
    ➣ interested in learning about climate change
    ➣ proficient in English to actively engage in global negotiations/public speaking in an online global community
Attendance Requirement Participants are required to take part in the activities for an estimated total of 18 hours, including:

  • 10 hours of online live sessions
  • 4 hours of self-paced online homework
  • 4 hours of group homework
Programme Fee Selected students will receive full sponsorship for participation in the program.

Students will be required to pay a deposit of HK$1,500, which will be refunded upon successful completion of the program.

Application Interested students should complete an online application form by 6 February 2025 (Thursday). Seven CUHK students will be selected to participate in the program. Students will be notified of the results around mid-February 2025.
