Forging collaborations and building connections at APAIE 2024

CUHK made a significant presence at the recent Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2024 Conference and Exhibition in Perth, Australia. The delegation led by Provost Prof. Alan Chan showcased CUHK’s educational initiatives at the Study in Hong Kong pavilion along with other funded institutions of the University Grants Committee (UGC) to promote Hong Kong as an international education hub.
Prof. Chan chaired a regional report on Hong Kong and the Philippines, highlighting the latest development in higher education in both regions and joined discussions on Hong Kong’s advantages and opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He also joined the APAIE advisory council meeting, where the agenda for the association in the coming years was mapped out. He also visited the University of Western Australia and met with Prof. Jennifer Howell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement to discuss ways to enhance student mobility programmes and strengthen collaborations between the two institutions.

During the conference, the UGC-funded universities jointly hosted a dinner to reconnect with some 280 partners and friends in the higher education sector. Distinguished guests included Dr. Christine Yuk-lin Choi, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government, and Prof. James Tang, Secretary-General of the UGC.

The conference and exhibition attracted over 2,000 participants from 66 countries/regions. CUHK’s involvement did not only reinforce its position as a leader in international higher education but also opened avenues for future partnerships and initiatives that will benefit students and academics alike. The delegation’s efforts at the conference served as a testament to CUHK’s dedication to global engagement and its impact on the higher education sector.
