After a period of remote learning and virtual interactions, the CUHK International Summer School (ISS) and Summer Institute (SI) are thrilled to have returned to a face-to-face mode. The physical summer school experience offered enriching academic and vibrant cultural exchange opportunities to students across the globe.

ISS offered its signature July Session this year with over 20 academic courses in a variety of subject areas, including Global Business and Management; Environment, Science and Technology; Society and Human Interaction; Understanding China; and Chinese Language. Its intensive Chinese language training in Putonghua, the August session, offered packaged courses in four different levels. The popular cultural activities, including cooking classes, Chinese calligraphy classes, and numerous weekend tours to the city and its outskirts, allowed students to fully immerse in the local culture. Coming from 90 universities, close to 380 students and 60 students joined the July and August sessions, respectively.

SI welcomed over 300 senior secondary school students for an immersive experience of face-to-face courses and enriching activities for two weeks in July. Eighteen one-credit unit courses spanning eight Faculties were offered for students to delve into various disciplines and get a taste of university education. A diverse range of enrichment activities was curated, including talks on university interview skills, workshops on crafting personal statements, and campus and facility visits. Additionally, students enjoyed cultural and heritage walks, insightful sharing sessions conducted by our current students and alumni, as well as the daily ‘Box and Board’ sessions, which fostered social and academic exchange among students from diverse backgrounds.
