Fellowship at Stanford: A gateway to intellectual exploration
CASBS hosts some 30 fellows from diverse fields in social and behavioral sciences this year.
The CUHK-Stanford University (Stanford) Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) Partner Fellowship Programme provides an opportunity for CUHK faculty members to take part in a residential fellowship at Stanford that fosters intellectual exchange and contributes to advancing research and thinking in the social sciences. Prof. Wilson Wong, Programme Co-Director of the Data Science and Policy Studies Programme participated in the fellowship programme during September 2022-May 2023.
‘My CASBS fellowship has been a flourishing journey. CASBS has produced 30 Nobel Prize laureates and 24 Pulitzer Prize winners. As a fellow, I have come to understand that its success stems from its interdisciplinary environment, which brings together scholars from a wide spectrum of social sciences, humanities, and even hard sciences at times. It fosters sharing and debating of ideas to inspire original and creative research.’
The fellowship programme inspires new research insights for Prof. Wilson Wong.
Prof. Wong is also grateful for the opportunity to be part of the close-knit and supportive community. He was selected as a member of the Fellows Committee to represent the class. He also co-led a study group on technology and society. Besides, CASBS connected him to other research institutes at Stanford. ‘I have been invited to join workshops and conferences by the Stanford Institute of Human-Centred AI, allowing intensive interaction with computer scientists and industry professionals to investigate how AI can enhance human capacities for social good. This has truly been a remarkable year of learning and intellectual growth for me.’
The next application call of the programme will open in September. Please stay tuned for the announcement.
