Hong Kong is the birthplace of numerous Kung Fu stars. Kiah Briana Jeneway, a student from the University of Kent in the UK, has been fascinated by martial arts and she has always wanted to learn Kung Fu. While on exchange at CUHK this year, she joined a taster session of Kung Fu organised by the Office of Academic Links. Sifu (master) Kwong provided some basic training for beginners in three sessions. It was intense but was also rewarding. Kiah later joined the New Asia Kung Fu Society and attended training sessions twice per week to further develop her Kung Fu skills.

‘Kung Fu has provided a family for me here in Hong Kong. It has been an amazing way for me to de-stress after a long day of studying, while gaining inner strength physically and mentally,’ Kiah shared. Despite the language barrier, she has been able to communicate with Sifu Kwong and other members through actions and their mutual love for Kung Fu. During the Lunar New Year, she performed lion dance with the New Asia Kung Fu Society in multiple locations across the city. ‘I will miss my Kung Fu family and the amazing teaching I received at CUHK!’
