Call for Applications: APRU Multi-Hazards 2023 Summer School (Internal deadline: 15 June 2023)

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is inviting students and young researchers who are interested in disaster risk reduction (DRR) to participate in the APRU Multi-Hazards 2023 Summer School.

 

The programme will be held at Tohoku University, Japan with a focus on ‘Tackling various hazard risks’. Programme details are as follows: 

The APRU Multi-Hazards 2023 Summer School

Date 24-27 July 2023
Location Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan
Objectives
  • Understand the mechanism of the international DRR strategies.
  • Learn from the experiences and recovery process from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
  • Learn from various disaster science research conducted in different countries.
  • Discuss the major challenges and roles of academia in progressing DRR in other countries.
Activities The programme consists of a 3-day seminar and a site visit to the affected area impacted by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
Fees
  • No registration fee is required.
  • Participants will have to fund their own travel and accommodation.
  • No funding support is available from the organizer.
Application Interested applicants should send their name, title and research interest/experience to the Office of Academic Links (c/o Ms. LAI Ching Yee; chingyee@cuhk.edu.hk) by 15 June 2023. The Office will submit applications to the programme organizer in one batch.

 

An acceptance notice will be sent out by end of June 2023.
