Prof. Rocky S. Tuan speaks at the Presidents’ Forum.
Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, took part in the McDonnell International Scholars Academy 7th International Symposium co-hosted by Washington University in St. Louis and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China during 11-14 October 2018. Themed ‘Global Challenges for Today’s Research Universities: Health, Energy and Environment, and Agriculture’, the symposium had participation from university leadership and delegates from around the world to study complex global issues, drawing on a diversity of perspectives from multiple countries and disciplines.
At the Presidents’ Forum, Prof. Tuan shared his views on the most sought-after qualities of students in face of the ever-changing world aside from knowledge of specialised subjects—the G.P.A., which stands for Global perspective, Positive mindset, and Appreciation of cultural and intellectual differences. He also signed a joint University Campus Sustainability Declaration, committing to work collaboratively to exchange ideas, identify approaches and metrics, and implement measures that help reduce carbon footprint.
Founded in 2005 at Washington University in St. Louis, the McDonnell International Scholars Academy seeks to prepare the next generation of global leaders and to foster collaboration among a network of 35 leading research universities to tackle global challenges. The academy’s biennial International Symposium serves as a platform to stimulate international cooperation to accelerate the progress in meeting global challenges.
