Study Abroad & Exchanges for CUHK Students

Shortlist and interview

Shortlist

How the students are being shortlisted?

The shortlist is decided based on academic performance, i.e. cumulative GPA / WGPA etc. WGPA is an index calculated from student's results from HKCEE/HKALE which is applicable to year 1 students only. The minimum requirement of cumulative GPA/WGPA for the shortlist varies each year according to the distribution and level of cumulative GPA/WGPA of all applicants in the year.

What should I do if I am shortlisted and invited to attend an interview?

If you are invited to attend an interview, you have to select "Schedule Interview" on your online application form to register for an interview session within the specified period (refer to here for the exact dates). Otherwise, you will be automatically excluded from this student exchange selection round.

If you register for an interview but do not show up at the end, you will be automatically excluded from this student exchange selection round and 10 percent of the composite score of your future application will be deducted.

For those whose request for exemption from interview is approved, they do not need to register for and sit in an interview session within the aforesaid period, different formulas will be used to calculate composite scores for the students who attend an interview and those who do not. (Refer to Calculation of Composite Score for details.)

Interview

Can I request for exemption from the interview?

If you are in your 1st year of study at CUHK, you cannot request for exemption from interview. You must attend the interview if you are shortlisted.

If you have completed at least two semesters at CUHK and wish to be exempted from the interview, you have to ask both your referees to complete the recommendation form and make sure the forms are submitted to OAL by 30 Oct 2013. OAL will take into account your application data, the recommendations and other information while processing your request for interview exemption.

OAL reserves the final right to require a student to attend an interview.

Should I request for exemption from interview? What should I consider in order to make the decision?

You may consider the following:

  1. Your current cumulative GPA
  2. Possible GPA which will be obtained in your current term
  3. Your confidence in attending an interview
  4. Calculation of composite score
  5. Exchange placements information of previous selection

Can I change my interview session?

You can change it before the deadline for interview registration. Since interview registration is conducted on a first-come-first-serve basis, please sign up for an interview session as early as possible.

If you register for an interview but do not show up at the end, you will be automatically excluded from this student exchange selection round and 10 percent of the composite score of your future application will be deducted.

Do I need to wear formal dressing?

No. Clean and tidy clothes will be fine. Just be yourself.

Will it be a group interview or an individual interview?

It will be an individual interview. If you choose to attend an interview, you will be interviewed by a panel of three (i.e. one CUHK professor, one CUHK administrative staff and one student who returned from exchange).

Will the interview be conducted in Chinese or English?

The interview will be conducted mainly in English. However, if you would like to go on exchange in a country that requires other language proficiency (e.g. Putonghua, French, Japanese etc.), the interview may be conducted in more than one language.

What kind of document should I bring with me?

Please bring your student ID card along to the interview for verification.
